I have the honour to forward and recommend for
the favourable consideration of His Excellency the Governor an applica-
tion from Mr. D. Hollis, Junior Assistant Master, to be permitted to
resign on the 16th. April.

Mr. Hollis was appointed by C.0.0.899/02 which
contains his Agreement, a clause of which requires the refund of
Passage Money, in the event of resignation, on any other grounds than
mental or physical disability, within three years from appointment.
3.
1 am very sorry to lose the services of Mr. Holli Hollis, who has a very pleasant manner with the Chinese boys, and gives
promise of being a very successful master.
4.
His chief reasons for resigning are dissatisfac-
tion with the School Curriculum, which does not embrace the subjects
which he has made a speciality; apprehension of possible effect of climate upon his health; and disappointment at the very distant prospect of promotion. It is evident, that if he is not to suffer by losing his present educational connection in England, he should return
thither as soon as possible.
5.
I observe in the published Accounts of the
Widows' and Orphans' Fund that certain amounts are annually refunded, and would submit that Mr. Hollis might have his contributions return- ed to him; especially as from one point of view, his appointment may be regarded as probational and therdfore temporary.
